Havre swimmers finish strong at Missoula Invite

The Havre High swim teams are certainly looking forward to the state meet, which is a mere two weeks away now.

But first, the Blue Ponies took to the pool one more time in the regular season, competing in Saturday's Missoula Invitational. Havre wrapped up the regular season by taking on strong Class AA teams from Missoula, Helena and Butte, as well as Class A rivals from Whitefish, Columbia Falls and Hardin.

On the boys side, Havre's Sergio Tomayo had another strong day in the pool, finishing fifth in both the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100 freestyle. Junior Jacob Miller was also strong for the Ponies with a fourth place in the 200 freestyle, while John Klein finished fifth in the 500 free. Paxtin McCann also placed ninth in the 100 butterfly, and Christian Mathis was ninth in the 100 backstroke. The HHS boys wound up fifth overall in the team standings.

For the Pony girls, Hannah Lunak turned in a ninth-place finish in the 100 backstroke, while Megan Miller finished 10th in the 200 IM and Kobi Burchard was 10th in the 500 free. The Pony girls finished ninth as a team.

Havre will now prepare for the 2019 Montana State Swimming Championships, which will take place Feb. 8-9 in Bozeman.
