Havre Public Schools is offering assistance to students whose families have been affected by the federal government shutdown.
The discounts will be offered on school lunches and food, Superintendent Andy Carlson in an email statement this morning.
Havre Public Schools Business Manager and Clerk Shanna Flores said that the discounts are not just for people affected by the shutdown, but are also for anyone whose income is affected by unemployment.
Flores added that the application lists the requirements for household income to qualify for the discounts.
The discounts apply to “nutritious and healthy meals only,” Flores said, adding that the meals could be purchased through either the regular lunch line or the a la carte line.
Flores said the goal is to provide lunches to all students regardless of income.
The discounts, which require an application be filled out, are available through the remainder of the school year.
