Blue Pony swimmers dual Bison, Rustlers as season winds down

The regular season is winding down for the Havre High swim teams, and that means every race counts.

The Blue Ponies were back in the GFH Pool Friday night for a dual meet with Great Falls High and CMR, and the event was big because it was the second to last meet of the season for HHS.

On the boys side, Havre scored 83 points against the Bison and 78.5 points against CMR. On the girls side, the Ponies scored 96 points against GFH and 87 points against the Rustlers.

Individually, the Ponies had some outstandings swims. On the boys side, Sergio Tomayo placed second in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 100 breaststroke. John Klein was also outstanding in the freestyle races, finishing fifth in both the 50 and 100 free. Jacob Miller was also fourth in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 individual medley for Havre, while Logan Twombly placed seventh in the 200 free and Ammon Lines finished seventh in the 100 backstroke.

Havre's top finishes in the relays included a fourth in the 400 free, a fourth in the 200 free and a fifth in the 200 medley.

On the girls side, the Ponies got a strong day from Megan Miller, who took second in the 100 free and third in the 200 IM. Kobi Burchard also shined with a third in the 100 breaststroke and a fourth in the 50 free. Hannah Lunak brought home a fourth place in the 100 backstroke, while Angela Rhines was seventh in the 100 breaststroke and Blakelee Lines was seventh in the 200 IM.

Havre will wrap up the regular season with this Saturday's Missoula Invitational. The Ponies will then have a week off before heading to the Montana State Swimming Championships Feb. 8-9 in Bozeman.
