News you can use

Hello, God. It's me, Mara.

A special day

You know, Lord, sometimes it just happens that there is a special day, a day when we notice a couple dozen wonderful things to cherish and treasure and enjoy. If we borrow an ingenious word, we can call that list, life saviors. Then up pops a list to share with You, Lord. Are You ready for the list? Here we go!

Letter from faraway special cousins … a drive on the prairie … blue sky above … this winter months’ weather like a calm before a storm … awe-inspiring cloud cover … about a “thousand” head of cattle on the hills … antelope grazing, about a hundred of them moving like a river … though there is snow, there are leaves crackling under foot … three deer eying the neighbor’s haystack … about a dozen deer reaching high as they can, trying to grab some far-above-the-ground crabapples … skin of ice on the river which is lightly frosted with snow … twinkling lights of distant towns … first kiss of snowflakes right on our face … a cozy, warm house to rush into out of this chilly breeze … and carrot cake and some tea to end our special day.

How You must shake Your head at us at times when we forget to notice all the special things that You have put here for our enjoyment. So, do we remember the good times we’ve had? Do we thank You for the storms of life that we walk through, knowing that storms cause rainbows? We need to pause and thank You for the trials and for Your authority because You are right there to supply in the midst of vicissitudes in life, You are right there with us every moment. Lord God, You are an awesome God and we thank You for Your greatness, Your creation, Your loving care for each one of us and for the special days that we pause and notice.

Love, Mara
