MSU-N matmen dominate in Dickinson

The Montana State University-Northern Lights are in full gear, as the stretch run of their 2018-19 wrestling season is here. And, they showed their dominance this past Saturday.

The Lights were in Dickinson, North Dakota, Saturday for the Tyler Plummer Classic, and they walked out of the tournament with seven individual champions.

Nick Kunz and Landon Bailey both won individual titles for the Lights, at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively, while former Havre Blue Pony Jase Stokes also took home the title at heavyweight. Not to be outdone, Northern also got titles from Brandon Weber at 157 pounds, Andrew Bartel at 165, Chase Short at 174 and Isaac Bartel at 197.

The Lights, of head coach Tyson Thivierge, had a big contingent of grapplers in Dickinson, too, and they placed six more. Former Blue Pony Ryan Stewart took fifth place at 125 pounds, while Rob Pair was sixth. The two didn't wrestle their final match. Kieton Keller also finished third for the Lights, while Carl Cronin placed sixth, Steeler French took fourth and Rylan Moldenhauer placed fifth.

"The boys wrestled really well today," Thivierge said. "We had tons of pins and bonus points. I was pretty happy with their performance."

The Lights are right back on the road for the Missouri Valley Invitational this Friday and Saturday in Marshall, Missouri.
