HHS swimmers look sharp at Stacy Frey Memorial

The Havre High swim teams are hitting their stride. And the Blue Ponies showed that at one of the top regular season meets in Montana this past weekend.

Saturday, Havre was in Great Falls for the 2019 Stacy Frey Memorial Invitational, and against a slew of top Class AA teams, the Blue Ponies had some outstanding swims and scores.

The Havre High boys had an especially strong day, finishing sixth with 76 points. The Ponies' competed well against the likes of Bozeman, Great Falls High, CMR, Helena High, Capital, Butte High, Billings Central and Hardin. The Pony girls finished ninth in the field, but also swam well, scoring 54 points.

Individually, the Havre boys were paced by the efforts of Sergio Tomayo, who finished second in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 500 free. Tomayo swam a 23:31 in the 50 free and a 5:11.44 in the 500 free. And while Tomayo was a standout individually, the Pony relay teams also came together for a great day. The Ponies finished sixth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:55.95 and sixth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:48.98.

On the girls side, Havre was led by Kobi Burchard and Megan Miller. Burchard placed sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:11.55, while she finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke. Miller placed an outstanding fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:12.42, while she was seventh in the butterfly.

Havre also had a ninth-place finish in the 200 medley relay, a ninth in the 200 free relay and a ninth in the 400 free relay.

The Blue Pony swim teams will be back in the GFH Pool this Friday for another meet.
