Steven Dennis Norby, 56, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 30, 2018, from heart disease.
Steve was born on May 17, 1962, in Great Falls to Dennis and Billie Norby. He began working in the oilfields at age 16 in Sidney, MT. At age 19, he met the love of his life and soulmate, Carolyn, in Malta. They then moved to Great Falls until Steve enlisted in the U.S. Army. The couple resided in Colorado Springs, CO, where their first son, Russell Steven, was born on January 9, 1986. Bradley Ray was born June 17, 1987, in Kalispell, and Curtis Ryan followed on December 6, 1988, also in Kalispell.
Steve worked in the valley in the sawmill and then had his own small engine shop until 1999. He then moved his family to Homestead, MT. Homestead held a special place in Steve's life as that is where the Norby's originally homesteaded for generations to come. Steve worked for Diamond B Oilfield Trucking until starting his job with BNSF where they then relocated to his final home of Havre in 2005.
Steve was a common and simple man who enjoyed watching his boys wrestle and play football. He even took on the joy of coaching their wrestling team. They spent many hours building derby cars and traveling to derbys. Steve loved hunting, fishing, camping and brewing beer. He also loved his Minnesota Vikings as much as he loved his family. Steve was also the founder and president of the DBN Club.
One of Steve's greatest joys in life was watching his boys as fathers. He loved playing ball and pestering his "little shaver" grandkids. Steve was a jokester and loved a good laugh, and he will be missed by all.
Steve was preceded in death by his son Curtis; father, Dennis Norby; sister, Cheryl Grefsrud;, stepfather, George Wartnow, and nephew Travis Wartnow.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carolyn, and their dog Blossom; sons Russ (Judy) and Brad (Bridget); grandchildren, Addison, Aiden, Mariah, and Curtis; mother, Billie Wartnow; siblings Scott (Kristi) and Shane; stepsiblings, George (Ronnda) Wartnow, Marie Bare and Julie Cole; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held in the spring. Flowers and cards may be sent to 1117 16th Street, Havre, MT 59501.
