Rocky Boy raises rewards for information on two men who disappeared

Tuesday, Chippewa Cree Law Enforcement Services increased the rewards from $1,000 to $10,000 each for any information about the disappearances of Richard “Smokey” Roasting Stick and Robert Alexander.

Investigating Officer Ed Long Knife Jr. said they have raised the reward to help encourage people to provide information leading to these two men being located.

“Give the families some closure,” Long Knife said this morning.

Roasting Stick, who was 57 at the time, was reported missing Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, by his family after his vehicle was discovered abandoned on an unpaved road near Northern Winz Casino on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation the previous Friday.

Roasting Stick has brown eyes, brown and gray hair, is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 155 pounds when last seen.

There have been no clues to his whereabouts since his disappearance in 2017.

Robert Alexander, who was 57 at the time, was reported missing April 29, 2013, after his wife had requested the police check on Alexander because she had not seen him for a couple of days.

Police were informed that Alexander may have traveled to the Sandy Creek area of the reservation, at its southern end. When police went to the area, they discovered his vehicle on a road that led to Mount Baldy. The driver's side window was rolled down and the keys were not in the vehicle.

A possible clue that was found was a pack of Marlboro 100s on the dashboard, which was not Alexander's brand. He smoked Marlboro Lights. Near the vehicle, up a path into the woods, the search for Alexander found his pajama bottoms near the vehicle. A little farther down the path, searchers found shoes. Both items were verified to have belonged to Alexander, but no more was found, including when the investigating officers increased the search in the area around the car.

Alexander was last seen April 27, 2013, at a ranch in Chouteau County.

He has brown eyes, brown hair, is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds and has a tattoo of a knife on his left forearm when last seen in 2013.

There have been no clues to his whereabouts since his disappearance in 2013.

Anyone with information about Roasting Stick or Alexander is asked to call investigator Ed Long Knife Jr. at 406-390-0980 or the Chippewa Cree Law Enforcement Services at 406-395-4513.
