First snow fall
Look Lord, our first December snow! Snowmen appear, they’re big or small. Geese are V-ing south, snow kisses touch our mouth. Fluffy flakes afloat which lightly “dust” our coat. Eddies on the roof, blow a handful — poof! Drifting swirling snow, bitter cold we grow. Heavy, wet it piles, spinning teasing wiles.
Pyrotechnics glare. Drivers! Do beware! Landscapes white abound, obscure shapes all-’round. Sliding down steep hills offer children thrills! White adorned roof-line, scenery so sublime. Naked trees so tall, birds pause viewing all. Under snow so deep, hibernators sleep.
Chores on farms to do — chore-men hurry through. Open water hole, cattle come, they stroll. Rodent’s hem-stitched tracks traverse snug hay stacks. Chore men unroll bales; we’ve heard some wondrous tales! The deer like to steal snacks from off amazing stacks.
Bunny Rabbits play but near the stacks they stay. That is their winter home and not too far, they roam.
Sun’s slow to rise each morn but soon new day is born. Twilight’s crisp and blue is God’s most lovely hue. Cattle softly low in dazzling yard-light glow. Fingers, nose and toes, they’re stinging, nipped and froze! Chores are done as norm, then to the house to warm. Winter’s come to stay, ’tis now more work than play, till geese come V-ing back, snow gives us little slack.
Snow needs clearing now with spade, shovel or plow. Driveways and walks to clear will make the old folks cheer; city or county folk, deep snow is not a joke.
The seasons hurry by; think I’ll go make a pie. “Time” can not be turned back so let’s go have a snack, or make some snow ice cream — that has to be a dream! First snow, so pure and white makes this day seem alright! Come in, dust off the snow, your cheeks have wintery glow!
Love, Mara
