Ice Hawks drop two games in Billings

After starting the season with two wins, two losses and two ties, the Havre Ice Hawks went on the road this past weekend to take on Billings and, unfortunately, the results aren’t exactly what Havre was hoping for.

The Ice Hawks played two games against the Billings Bulls in Billings and lost both, dropping the first game Friday by a score of 11-3. Havre followed that up with a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Billings Saturday. The losses dropped the Ice Hawks to 2-4-2 overall and leave them with six points in the state standings, where Havre is currently for fourth with Helena. Missoula, Billings and Bozeman are currently leading the division.

In the first game of the weekend for Havre, Friday, the Bulls flew out of the gates, scoring four runs in the first period and two more in the second, making it 6-0 before the Ice Hawks found the back of the net twice to make the score 7-2 at the end of the second period. In the third period, though, Billings just added to its lead, scoring four goals compared to one for the Ice Hawks. Cole Hanson, Bridger Staples and Ethan Roberts all scored a goal in the loss for Havre, while Kinzee Peterson managed 37 saves in net.

Saturday, the two teams met again and this time, Havre failed to find the back of the net, despite getting 27 shots on goal. Billings managed to get 42 shots on goal and scored six times, with two goals coming in the first, second and third periods. Trennis Riley did an admirable job in goal for Havre, stopping 37 of the 43 shots.

The Ice Hawks are now 2-4-2 on the season. They will be back in action Dec. 14-15 against Butte at the Havre Ice Dome.
