Havre sweeps Glasgow in the Ice Dome

Hockey season is in full swing across the state of Montana and while many people enjoyed the holiday weekend for Thanksgiving, the Havre Ice Hawks were back on the ice both Saturday and Sunday this past weekend.

After paying a visit to Bozeman previously, the Ice Hawks played host to Glasgow over the weekend, with games inside the Havre Ice Dome Saturday and Sunday. In the first meeting Saturday, the Ice Hawks registered their first win of the season, as Havre got four goals from Bridger Staples and another from Ethan Roberts in a 5-3 win. Kinzee Peterson also contributed to the win with 23 saves.

On Sunday, Havre completed the sweep. The Ice Hawks spotted Glasgow a 1-0 lead in the previous matchup, but the Ice Hawks scored the first three goals of the game Sunday, building a 3-1 lead after the first period. Yet, the offensive onslaught continued into the second period, as Havre found the back of the net five times. The Ice Hawks added another goal in the third period, which put the finishing touches on a 9-5 win.

Staples recorded a hat trick in the second straight game Sunday and scored seven goals in two games against Glasgow. Roberts also scored three goals in the win, while Donovan McLain (two goals) and Bayron Merker also scored. Peterson was also solid in between the pipes again with 39 saves.

With those wins, the Ice Hawks are now 2-2-2 on the season after getting a win and a tie in two games against Bozeman Nov. 16-17. In the first game between the two teams, Bozeman scored four first-period goals and added seven more in the second frame to notch an easy 13-3 victory. Peterson gave up eight goals in net; Trennis Riley also allowed five and saved 17. Peterson finished with 25 saves. Offensively, Roberts and Trent Shettel both scored in defeat.

The next day, Havre took on Bozeman in the second game of the two-game series and this time around, the results were much different. Bozeman jumped ahead with two early goals, yet Roberts answered midway through the first period and the Ice Hawks trailed just 2-1 after 20 minutes. In the second period, Roberts helped Havre surge into the lead with two goals, however, Bozeman added two of its own to make the final a 4-4 tie. Roberts notched his first hat trick of the season in the loss. Connor Moomey also added his first goal of the season and Riley put together some solid work between the pipes, helping his team get a point in the standings with 39 saves.

Havre (2-2-2) will hit the road again this weekend, with two games set in Billings, starting Friday night at 8.
