Obituary - John Meredith

John Meredith went home to talk to his son Dust, on the evening of November 13, 2018.

John was born in Kalispell and raised in Geyser, MT. He was youngest son of seven siblings.

He met his wife, Connie, and they married soon after on March 3, 1967. Despite being told, "You'll never make it," their positive outlook, and senses of humor allowed them to overcome the many obstacles that life presented. Through it all, they remained husband, and wife, and best friends more than half a century.

Between 1966 and 1968, John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon return to Havre, John became a long-time active member of the Elks Club for many years. He worked for Getter Trucking, Stuber Plumbing, and Baltrusch Construction. He loved to hunt, fish, and cook. He enjoyed woodworking, visiting, and playing cards, especially cribbage, and pinochle.

John was a generous man, always willing to lend a hand, or his tools. He truly loved people, and loved visiting with people. He had an enormous sense of humor, a way of finding the laughable, even in the most dire of circumstances. He maintained that sense of humor, and positive attitude through his very last moment here with us. John was dad, uncle, brother, grandpa, or friend to everyone who had the blessed chance to meet him. He will be joyfully remembered, and deeply missed.

John is preceded in death by his beloved son, Dustin J. Meredith; his parents, Charles and Kathleen Meredith; sister-in-law, Sandra (Chuck) Meredith; brothers-in law Bill (Ruby) Emerson, Ira (Patty) Haskins, and many of their dear friends, including Richard Smith.

He is survived by his wife of more than over 51½ years, Connie; daughter, Chris (Ken) Twedt, grandchildren, Chance and Kali Twedt, brothers, Chuck Meredith, Steve Meredith; sisters, Ruby Emerson, Patty Haskins, Betty (Alan) Langen, Janis (Gene) Boyd, his adoptive son, Stuart (Tara) Swanson, many nieces, nephews, family, and friends, far too many to mention.

John wished to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home.
