United Way capital campaign underway

United Way is in the midst of its capital campaign season and is looking for donations to help fund its partners.

Hill County United Way Director Delonna Malone said the slogan for this campaign season is “Local dollars saves local lives.”

She added that their biggest fundraising event is the crab boil, which took place at the end of September, this year at Beaver Creek Golf Course.

Malone said they cooked crab, shrimp, potatoes, corn and kielbasa sausage at the event. Tables were sold to event sponsors for $1,500 per table with up to eight people around each table.

Sponsors also could purchase a table for $550.

The food was provided by Uncle Joe’s Steakhouse and about eight cooks were hired for the food preparation, Malone added.

“This year we raised over $19,000,” Malone said. “It’s a really good fundraiser for us.”

Malone added that they are looking into a bigger venue, but before she can commit to another place, she wants to make sure the food is good.

Another event that the United Way puts on is Swim Day which is held in June. Malone said they rent out the local pool and invite all the kids to come.

“We had probably over 100 kids. We had to turn away some kids because there’s a limit on the occupancy,” Malone added.

The money collected by United Way of Hill County is distributed among it’s local, funded partners, Malone said. For this capital campaign cycle, those include Meals on Wheels, Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen, the Havre Food Bank and Hill County Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Malone said they have letters sent out to donors and smaller fundraising opportunities. Thursday night was United Way’s Crunch for a Cause through Taco John’s and Malone added they have another fundraiser in December through Pizza Hut.
