Parker Filius up to his winning ways at Purdue

Former Havre High four-time state champion Parker Filius is getting his first year as a varsity starter for the Purdue Boilermakers off to a great start.

On Sunday, Filius captured the 149-pound championship at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic in New York.

The title was part of a big weekend for Filius who also went 2-0 in duals for the Boilermakers.

On Saturday, Purdue clobbered Bloomsburg College and Drexel in duals, with Filius going 2-0 at 149. He won both his matches by fall.

Filius also finished sixth at the prestigious Princeton Open earlier this month, and now he has a record of 8-2 on the season.

Filius and the Boilermakers are currently ranked No. 17 in the NCAA. Purdue opens the Big 10 season Nov. 24 with a visit to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Filius’ next tournament comes Nov. 30 when the Boilermakers head to Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Invitational.

Filius redshirted for the Boilermakers last season, and competed in six tournaments unattached. He placed in four tournaments and won the Eastern Michigan Open.

This past spring, Filius also competed in the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials.
