Kourtney Hanson, Chinook Volleyball
The 2018 volleyball season is now in the books for the Chinook Sugarbeeters, who finished third at last weekend’s Northern C tournament in Belt. And what a season it was for Kourtney Hanson. In the last month of the season, Hanson averaged an incredible 15 kills and four blocks per match. She had 20-plus kills in seven different matches and had a match-high 31 last month against Malta. Hanson is a three-sport star in Chinook, also playing basketball and running track. She helped the Beeters to a 6C East title in volleyball as well.
Ryan Roth, Big Sandy Football
The 2018 football season didn’t end in the fashion the Big Sandy Pioneers were hoping for. But a loss to unbeaten Wibaux last Saturday in the Six-Man quarterfinals won’t diminish the great year the Pioneers had. And Big Sandy’s Ryan Roth finished strong, as well. Roth caught both touchdowns passes in the Pioneers’ final game of the season, while also racking up plenty of tackles on the defensive side of the ball. Roth, a two-way standout for the Pioneers this season, will now turn his attention to the basketball season.
