Black powder club holds Christmas Turkey Shoot

The Bullhook Bottoms Black Powder Club held its annual Christmas Turkey Shoot on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Hill County Sports Shooting Range on River Road west of Havre. Twenty-three shooters participated in the afternoon event with six matches, all five shots each, at various distances and positions. Shooting conditions were excellent most of the afternoon.

The winners of the matches were:

25-yard Pistol: 1st Tom Brown, Havre, 48; 2nd Dick Hanson, Havre, 41; 3rd Pete Huesby, Havre, 40.

25-yard Offhand: 1st Dick Hanson, Havre, 41; 2nd Andy Owens, Havre, 41; 3rd Tom Brown, Havre, 39.

50-yard Offhand: 1st Pete Huseby, Havre, 45; 2nd Chris Moen, Eureka, 42; 3rd Dick Hanson, Havre, 41.

50-yard Cross Sticks: 1st Tom Brown, Havre, 49xx; 2nd Bob Doney, Havre, 48xx; 3rd Jim Griggs, Havre, 47xx.

50-yard Cross Sticks (5-bull target): 1st Bob Doney, Havre, 42; 2nd Cameron Griggs, Havre 39x; 3rd Tom Brown, Havre, 38. 

50-yard Offhand Cartridge: 1st Pete Huseby, Havre, 44; 2nd Jim Litzinger, Havre, 40; 3rd Lacy Huseby, Havre, 38.

In keeping with the holiday spirit contestants could win only one turkey for the day. The event paid out 23 places, giving every shooter a turkey this year. There were two sub-juniors shooting Sidney Griggs scoring 33 on a 25-yard cross stick match and Luke Griggs scoring 7 on a 5-bull 50-yard cross stick match. They won a gold dollar and a Pizza Hut coupon.
