Brown, Hadford face off in race for Hill County treasurer: Sandy Brown, Democrat

A Hill County Democrat is seeking a third term in office, saying she has made improvements in her department but wants to do more.

And, "I enjoy the work," Treasurer Sandy Brown said.

Brown faces Republican Penny Hadford in the Nov. 6 general election.

A Havre native, Brown said she started working in the Hill County treasurer's office in 1999, adding that in September she started her 20th year.

In 2010, she challenged her boss, incumbent Carrie Dickson, and defeated her in the Democratic primary. Brown was unopposed in the general election.

In 2014 Dickson created a rematch, running in the primary again. Brown won the primary and was unopposed in the general election.

Brown said she wants to continue in the office, including working with the Legislature and state agencies to improve the office and procedures, and to improve herself.

"There is something new to learn every day," she said.

She said one of the reasons she ran in 2010 was because she wanted to upgrade the technology in the office, making it more efficient and the work faster and easier for the public.

"I wanted to bring the office forward with existing technology," she said.

She added that she wants to continue with that work and is also working in the field to improve the technology.

Brown said she is on the forms committee for Tyler Technology and works to upgrade the tax forms used in the state. Part of that has been designing different forms for different levels of complexity, she said.

Her years of experience in different functions of the office, including with motor vehicles, helps her with her job, Brown said.

She added that she stays active with what is going on in the state, including working on the treasurer's associations legislative committee.

"Many things happening to state agencies affect the county," she said.

She said that is part of why she wants to return to the office.

"I want to keep up the work ... for the betterment of the county and its residents," she said.
