Red-hot Pony spikers win easily in Cut Bank

The Havre High volleyball team went on the road Saturday night to take on Cut Bank, looking to sweep the Wolves for the second time in a few weeks.

The first time to the two teams met, Havre did get a sweep, but had to rally in each set in order to do so. This time around, however, it was a different story, as the Blue Ponies rolled to victory in the opening set 25-7, then defeated the Wolves 25-21 and 25-15 to take the 3-0 win. It was the seventh win in eight matches for the Ponies, who are now 10-6 on the season, with three Central A conference matches remaining before divisionals.

When the two teams met in Havre, the Ponies struggled to put the Wolves away, yet in Cut Bank, Havre dominated from the start and controlled the match in every single category. When it came to kills, the Ponies finished with 33 total, including 9.5 from Cassidy Acor and eight from Sam Oliver. Oliver was also a big part in notching 25 assists in the match, as she finished with 19, to go along with 11 digs and two aces.

Defensively, the Ponies also put together a strong effort and racked up 46 digs as a team, which helped limit Cut Bank to just 10 kills and six assists. Havre also managed seven aces, while the Wolverines finished with only three, two of which came from Brynne Finstad.

Sydney Wilting led the way for Havre when it came to serving, as she ended up with three aces. Peyton Brown was right behind her with two, along with Oliver. Jessa Chvilicek, who led the Central A in blocks coming into the week, added three more of her total. Havre finished the match with five total compared to just two for the Wolves.

After winning the first set by 18 points, the second set was much closer at 25-21, before Havre closed the door on its sixth sweep in eight matches with a 25-15 triumph. The Ponies will be back in action Thursday, when they will host Livingston in a Central A conference matchup.
