Sylvia was born on June 6, 1943, in Bremerton, WA, to Boyce and Nadine (Naley) Crone. She was raised in Montana and North Dakota, attending grade school in Fort Peck, MT, and high school in Riverdale, ND. Toward the end of her high school career, she moved to Bakersfield, CA, where she graduated from high school. Over the next several years, Sylvia traveled with her family, eventually settling in Amarillo, TX. There she met and married Clyde Murray in 1980, and the couple relocated to Havre in 2000. There, she worked as a loan director for Bear Paw Development.
Sylvia was a loving woman who spent a great deal of her time volunteering for several agencies, including the Montana Job Service JSEC, serving on the board of directors for the Native American Bank, and working tirelessly for the Fort Assiniboine Genealogical Society. She was incredibly passionate about her work in genealogy, at which she was a pioneer, researching families since the early 1970s. Sylvia was one of the few who became accredited as a genealogist through the Utah State Genealogical Society. She then shared her knowledge, teaching genealogical classes at Amarillo College and continuing education classes in Havre, and lectured on genealogy studies at Brigham Young University. She was also an active member of the Havre Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, teaching Sunday School and Scripture Study to youth and adults for many years and managing the Family History Center.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her daughter Pamela Ann Murray; parents, Boyce and Nadine Crone; sister, Sandra (Crone) Tappenes; son-in-law Dean McConkie; and nephew David "Butch" Donhaker.
She is survived by her loving husband, Clyde Murray of Havre; children Roger (Lisa) Turley of Utah, Karenne McConkie of TX, Paige (Del) Nace of Georgia, and Jenie (Jeff) Linton of Florida; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
