Havre High runners cap off a long weekend of racing

The Havre High Cross Country Teams are in the closing stretch of their schedule and that stretch included the Helena 7-on-7 Preview Meet which took place last Thursday in Helena at the Bill Roberts Golf Course.

The annual meet, which normally serves as a preview for the All-Class state meet, had a different feel this year, as state cross country is set to be in Missoula. Yet, it didn’t discourage the majority of teams in the state from attending and even though no team scores are kept, with seven runners for each runner on every team, it’s still one of the most competitive meets in Montana.

As far as the Ponies were concerned, the girls held up well but didn’t finish inside the top 20 in any of the seven races. In the No. 1 race, Kadia Miller finished 23rd with a time of 20:49, while in the race of No. 2 runners, Tamera O’Leary finished 25th after completing the course in 21:51. In her race, Hannah Haslem finished 28th (22:46); Emma Gillen was 27th (22:52); Lilly Taly finished 30th (23:41); Aliviah Pratt was 24th (24:16) in the No. 6 race and Grace Loftus wound up 25th (24:58).

The boys squad also put together a solid day against some very challenging teams, starting with Jakob Keller, the top runner on the team, who finished 29th in his respective race with a time of 18:03. Havre’s No. 2 runner Dylan Young finished 27th (18:32) and the Ponies third runner, Cameron Pleninger, was 32nd with a time of 18:53.

The other varsity runners who competed for Havre were Noah Azure (22, 18:36), Sidney Moffitt (26, 19:16), Sergio Tamayo (36, 20:55) and Ethan Durward, who ended his race 33rd, following a time of 20:52.

After competing in Helena Thursday, both Havre teams traveled to Cut Bank Saturday. Cut Bank played host to the Browning Invitational. No results were available by press time.

The Ponies will be back in action this Saturday, when they will host the Fall Classic on the campus of Montana State University-Northern.
