People are invited to join Friends of the Missouri Breaks Monument when it hosts the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Montana State University-Northern's Little Theatre Monday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m.
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started by a watershed advocacy group, the South Yuba River Citizens League, in 2003. The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films from the annual festival held in Nevada City, California. Festival-goers can expect to see award-winning films about nature, adventure, conservation and wildlife. These films combine remarkable cinematography and expert storytelling that serve to deepen appreciation for the natural world and the work that people and communities are doing to protect it.
For the event in Havre and four other Montana cities, the Friends of the Missouri Breaks Monument has selected 11 films on topics that include people whose lives are closely connected to the Yellowstone River, an unlikely pair who tackle more than just summits, and a community's successful fight to protect its water from the oil and natural gas industry. The festival is a natural extension of the Friends of the Missouri Breaks Monument's work to inspire people to act on behalf of the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. The group serves the monument by educating the public, advocating for responsible access and environmentally responsible uses, and supporting efforts that protect and restore the monument.
