Letter to the Editor - Tell senators to oppose Kavanaugh

Editor,

Just two days after my son was born, we found out that he had a potentially fatal heart defect. At 4-months-old we took him to have a procedure done on one of the valves on his heart. The valve will have to be replaced again, eventually.

Luckily, thanks to Montana’s Medicaid we have access to good doctors and annual check-ups that are affordable. Currently, I have some security in knowing that when the time comes to replace the valve, we can do it and he will live. The thought of losing protections for people with pre-existing conditions terrifies me. If the Affordable Care Act is repealed, and my son is no longer covered, how will he ever find health insurance with a premium and deductible that is affordable?

The nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is dangerous for all Montanans who access healthcare through the ACA. Last year, Judge Kavanaugh went so far as to criticize Chief Justice John Roberts for upholding the constitutionality of the ACA and argued that a president could declare a law unconstitutional, even if a court upholds it as constitutional. If he is confirmed, he could take away the healthcare of countless of your friends and neighbors. Without the ACA, Montana is at risk.

Please join me in urging our senators to vote no on Judge Kavanaugh to protect our care!
