Letter to the Editor - Don't let Kavanaugh dismantle Affordable Care Act

Editor,

As a mother of two children with autism, I know the fear of not being able to afford to keep my family covered with health insurance to keep them healthy. We all need to realize, we are one stroke, one heart attack, one car wreck, one birth away from being in a situation of having a pre-existing condition that you didn’t have two days ago! Ending protections for people with pre-existing conditions could happen if the Affordable Care Act is dismantled. 425,900 Montanans live with preexisting conditions. If this happened, the 130 million Americans living with a pre-existing condition could lose their health care overnight, and so would nearly half of Montana’s population. That is a scary thought.

Currently, this administration has joined a lawsuit that seeks to invalidate the ACA, which is likely to reach the Supreme Court. A nominee like Brett Kavanaugh must not be taken lightly. Montanans’ health care is on the line if Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court. He’ll rubber stamp the current Washington, D.C., anti-health care agenda, and put Montanans at risk. Stand with your friends and neighbors, urge your senators to vote no on Kavanaugh, and protect our health care and pre-existing conditions Montana!
