MSU-N harriers win Battle of the Border

The Montana State University-Northern golf teams completed the second of three fall tournaments Wednesday in Great Falls.

The Lights and Skylights played in the Argo Invitational, held at the tough Meadowlark Country Club in Great Falls.

The Northern men finished in sixth place with a team total of 1,022. Rocky Mountain College captured the tournament, finishing 19 strokes ahead of Montana Tech.

Junior Devin Bray was the top finisher for the Lights, coming in at 236 for 54 holes, which was a tie for 23rd. Bray shot a 78 in the second round. Junior Jerod Boles fired a 79 in the third round to finish at 253 for 34th place, while freshman T.J. Reynolds was 35th at 258. Kyle Vandenacre finished 37th and Chance Parson finished tied for 38th, rounding out the scoring for the Lights.

On the women’s side, Northern placed sixth with a team total of 763. RMC also captured the women’s title by 20 shots over Lewis-Clark State.

Jenna Jensen was outstanding for the Skylights, carding a 10th-place finish. Jensen shot rounds of 80 and 83 in the 36-hole tournament.

Megan Vandenacre came in 28th for Northern, while Diana Ball placed 33rd, followed by Carrie Hofer in 34th.

The Lights and Skylights wrap up the fall season with the Rocky Mountain College Invitational Sunday and Monday in Billings.

Meanwhile, the MSU-N cross country team successfully captured the Battle of the Border traveling trophy last weekend in Wyoming. The Northern men and women topped Central Wyoming in their annual dual meet, which alternates between Wyoming and Havre. Next fall, the meet will be back in Havre.

The Northern cross country teams continue the 2018 season with the NCAA Division 1 University of Montana Cross Country Invitational this Friday in Missoula.
