The 2018 high school volleyball regular season has reached the halfway point. And from here on out, matches just keep getting bigger and bigger.
Last's week's action on the Hi-Line featured some exciting games, including a big win for the North Star Knights last Friday. At home, North Star beat surging Box Elder by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-17. Olivia King had nine kills for the Knights, while Paij Peterson had 18 assists and four blocks. Lilly Gopher had five kills and two blocks for the Bears.
In another 6C East rivalry match Friday, Chinook beat Chester-Joplin-Inverness by scores of 25-13, 26-24 and 25-13. Kourtney Hanson had a huge match with 17 kills, three aces and five blocks. Abby Fraser had seven kills and Peyton Hawks had 12 assists for CJI.
Big Sandy also took care of Hays-Lodge Pole Friday. In the 6C East win, the Pioneers won by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-22. Stacey Allderdice served up seven aces in the win for the Pioneers.
Saturday was a busy one on the Hi-Line, with Fort Benton beating Chinook by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-16. Abby Clark had eight kills and five blocks for the Longhorns, while Ginger Hauer had 10 assists, eight digs and four aces for the Sugarbeeters.
CJI also got a huge non-conference win last Saturday, as the Hawks outlasted Dutton-Brady in a thriller. CJI won by scores of 25-27, 25-15, 17-25, 25-22 and 15-13 in a wild match. North Star meanwhile, came up short at Great Falls Central. The Knights lost by scores of 25-20, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-15.
Big Sandy also lost a tough non-conference match to the Centerville Miners Saturday. The Pioneers lost the heartbreaker by scores of 25-16, 14-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 15-0. Jaylyn Cline had 16 kills and Lainey Gregory had five aces and six assists for the Pioneers.
In Class B action Saturday night, Harlem was throttled by rival Wolf Point, by scores of 25-1, 25-6 and 25-13, while Choteau beat Rocky Boy by scores of 25-7, 25-9 and 25-6 in a District 1B match.
Action continues this week, and Saturday, several mid-season tournaments will take place, including the North Star Showcase in Rudyard, and the Fort Benton Tournament.
