Friday Night Lights: This Senior is All Smiles

Havre's Logan Twombly has been dreaming of being a Blue Pony since 4th grade. Now, he'll run out of the famed Blue Pony Stadium tunnel on homecoming

There are a lot of great things about high school football and one of them is players like Logan Twombly.

Twombly, a senior captain for the Havre High football, has waited his entire life to get a chance to start for the Blue Ponies, and this season, he is living out his dream as the starting center for HHS. Tonight against Glendive on homecoming night, Twombly will once again get the opportunity to represent his team, his school and his town, under the lights at Blue Pony Stadium.

“I have been dreaming about playing center for the Ponies since I was in fourth grade,” Twombly said. “It’s a great feeling. When I got to start and run out of the tunnel for the first time, I couldn’t stop smiling.”

For Twombly, the journey to the starting lineup has been both long and trying. During his first three seasons playing high school, he didn’t see much time with the varsity team. The past couple of seasons he has traveled with the Ponies and gotten on the field in some spot duty. However, his team-first attitude never relented and neither did his desire to play. And like many high school football players this season, his senior season, was his time to shine.

“I have tried to work really hard to get here,” Twombly said, “and now that I am here, I have to work even harder now that I have it.”

One thing Twombly said he did to try and earn his way onto the field in a starting capacity was take part in all of the offseason activities the Ponies had. He said he went to camps, lifting and everything the team had to offer. Along the way, Twombly didn’t just become a starter on the offensive line, he become one of the team’s leaders and before the season started, he was chosen as a captain by a vote of his teammates.

“I went to everything that we had to go to,” Twombly said, “and I just kind of started to become a leader. I try to be a good example for the younger kids to follow. I just have been involved and I have been having a lot of fun with it.”

During his first start as a Blue Pony, Twombly and Havre High rolled to an easy 24-0 win over Hardin. The Ponies scored three touchdowns in the first half and routed the Bulldogs. It was a night Twombly said he won’t soon forget.

“It was a lot of fun,” Twombly said. “Getting announced and running out of the tunnel. It’s just a great atmosphere. There are people in the stands and in their cars. It’s just good knowing that everyone is supporting us.”

Twombly, who also see snaps on the defensive line at defensive tackle, he has been a big part of the improvement along the offensive line. The Ponies have rushed for 100 yards in multiple games this season and helped the offense rush for nearly 200 yards against Hardin in the season opener.

Yet Twombly and the Ponies have bigger goals and those include winning on homecoming night and fighting their way into the playoff race. The senior offensive lineman is confident that HHS can do both.

“Last year we lost on homecoming to Sidney,” Twombly said. “This year, we are going to beat Glendive. It’s my last one and the last homecoming for the seniors, so we have to make it count.”

Twombly also said he believes the Ponies have what it takes to make a playoff run, a push that would be helped greatly by a Havre win over Glendive tonight at Blue Pony Stadium.

“I am pretty hyped,” Twombly said. “I want to get to the playoffs. I want to be there. I was talking to our quarterback Reese Bulkley and he wants to get there, too. I think the whole team does. We have potential, and I think we are pretty close.”

Kickoff in the critical game between Glendive and the Ponies is set for 7.
