The third week of high school volleyball on the Hi-Line also marked the start of conference play in both Class C and Class B really heating up.
But last week started with a non-conference thriller between old rivals in Chinook and Malta. Ultimately, the Sugarbeeters fell to the M-Ettes last Tuesday, by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-18, but the Beeters hung tough.
And they bounced back for a big District 6C East win Thursday night. Playing North Star, Chinook swept the Knights by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-21. Kourtney Hanson had a big match for Chinook with 13 kills and two blocks, while Saige O'Neil had seven kills and three aces for North Star.
Thursday night also saw Box Elder defeat Big Sandy in Big Sandy, while Fort Benton beat Centerville by scores of 25-7, 25-12 and 25-10.
Last week turned out to be a big one for Box Elder, as well. The Bears made it 2-0 in 6C East matches Friday when they took down Chester-Joplin-Inverness by scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-16. Lilly Gopher had 10 kills and two blocks for the Bears, while Kim Ghekiere had 15 kills and two blocks for CJI.
Saturday, CJI did the bouncing back by beating Hays-Lodge Pole in two 6C East matches. The Hawks won the first match by scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-21, and the second by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-18 for two important conference wins.
