News you can use
Dear editor,
In a few weeks, 2018’s Festival Days will be here, and early information indicates another fun, exciting and excellently planned weekend will occur. I tip my old baseball cap to Jody and Julea at the Chamber office for their work and to the committees, organizations and individuals who will contribute to a memorable event.
It’s indeed a challenge to hit everything on the schedule; to miss anything would be a shame. I would like to encourage all Festival-goers to make a visit to the Railroad Museum and, of course, Havre Beneath the Streets. So much of our community’s history is presented.
I hope each museum visitor will take the stairs to the basement and prepare to be amazed. For several years, Eldon Mooney and a small group of dedicated artisans, craftsmen, modelers and collectors have worked to create a railroad empire in miniature that is truly exceptional. Trains form early steam up to through the most modern are represented, and the towns, prairies, yards and mountains through which they run are expertly crafted.
I spent some time last year both Saturday and Sunday watching a fascinating presentation, and appreciating how committed the group was to making the experience wonderful for preschoolers through “oldsters” like me. While I was there, a couple from Australia and a retired man from New York came in. It was fun to see their excitement and to see their amazement that Havre had such a treasure. I hope a lot of folks this year will discover the same excitement.
Hey, everyone, enjoy Festival Days 2018!
