Domino’s has awarded a grant of $5,000 to Havre City Public Works for pothole repairs.
Domino’s invited customers in June to nominate towns and cities across the country for it’s Paving for Pizza program, where Domino’s presents a grant to areas for pothole repair. In July a representative from Domino’s contacted Havre City Public Works Director Dave Peterson to tell him Havre was nominated.
Peterson said Domino’s had contacted him and asked if Havre would be willing to participate in the program, to which he answered, “Absolutely.”
After getting a contract together, Peterson said, a grant was awarded to Public Works worth $5,000 to repair potholes around town, adding that this money will go a long way. He said he was excited that Havre was one of the towns selected for the program, with Domino’s working to select one town in every state in the U.S.
“They knew our situation,” Peterson said. “Thanks to the community out there that got on and and voted for us to receive this grant.”
Havre Sand and Gravel produces asphalt for the city, Peterson said, and hopefully the project will get started within the next couple of weeks.
He added that Havre crews are going to be doing a lot of street work in the month of September, if the weather cooperates.
Havre is one of only 10 cities to get the Domino’s grant so far.
“We knew that people were passionate about pizza, but we discovered that Americans are also very passionate about potholes,” Ritch Allison, chief executive officer of Domino’s, said in a press release Aug. 29. “The overwhelming response that customers had to the program will mean more pizzas arriving safely in communities across all 50 states.”
The nine other cities across the country that have recently received a grant through the Domino’s program are:
• Fitchburg, Massachusetts
• Des Moines, Iowa
• New Orleans, Louisiana
• Kinston, North Carolina
• Milwaukee, Wisconsin
• Hamtramck, Michigan
• Jackson, Mississippi
• Marion, Texas
• Grand Forks, North Dakota
Voting is open until Dec. 31.
