Drivers are warned to use extra caution when driving through Beaver Creek Park after Labor Day, with cattle once again going onto the park during the fall grazing season.
The Hill County Park Board leases grazing to area ranchers from the day after Labor Day to the first of the next year.
Beaver Creek Park Superintendent Chad Edgar said a night-time speed limit of 35 mph will again go into effect on the park during grazing season, and people need to watch out because high numbers of cattle could be on the highway.
“Please use caution when traveling through the park, especially at night when cattle are harder to see,” Edgar said Thursday. “Traveling above the speed limit does not allow drivers enough reaction time to avoid hitting cattle.”
The daytime speed limit in the park is 55 mph to Taylor Road and 45 mph past Taylor Road.
Montana Department of Transportation plans to again place a reader board south of Havre on Montana Secondary Highway 234 — Beaver Creek Highway — reminding people that cattle will be on the park.
