Havre police reported that four businesses failed compliance checks during a sting to test whether they check identification during alcohol purchases.

A release from the Havre Police Department said two police officers and a minor entered several businesses Aug. 20 to conduct alcohol compliance checks. In the checks, the minor attempted to purchase alcohol.

People must be 21 to purchase alcohol in Montana.

Gary & Leo’s Fresh Foods, HI-Line Gold Casino, Holiday Stationstores and PJ’s Restaurant and Casino failed the checks, the release said.

Businesses that passed the checks were Bullhook Bottoms Casino, Oxford Billiard Parlor, Vic’s Place, Eagles Club, Gallery Lounge, Walmart Super Center, Pizza Hut, Town Pump, Tip-It Bar, First Street Zip Trip, Stromberg’s Sinclair, Emporium and Highland Park Zip Trip.

The release said that businesses that failed the check are asked to have their employees attend responsible alcohol services and sales training conducted by the Montana Department of Revenue.

Businesses that sell alcohol are asked to check identification on all people who appear to be younger than 40, the release said.
