Pizza Hut fundraiser set Thursday for Nyberg

A fundraiser is set Thursday at Havre's Pizza Hut for Angie Nyberg

Nyberg was diagnosed July 5 with Stage Three triple negative breast cancer. She started chemotherapy treatments the second week of July and has done three treatments since she was diagnosed. She said her next one will be right after Labor Day weekend.

She added that she will be going through treatments until December, when she will undergo surgery, and then resume chemotherapy afterword.

Havre-native Nyberg left for college in Bozeman where she received her undergraduate degree and then attended the University of Mary in Billings for her graduates degree in occupational therapy. After that she came back to Havre and works in the Havre Public Schools as an occupational therapist, working with special needs children.

Nyberg and her husband, Dustin, have spent the summer doing a lot of camping and fishing, she said, adding that they traveled all around the state, floated the Smith River, and most recently went camping in the Bear Paw Mountains.

She said she enjoys being outside and spending time with friends and family; although, recently she often has been tired and has experienced good days as well as some bad.

Nyberg said she also has two dogs, Gus and Bandit, who keep her busy.

She is still working, she said, and was back in school Monday for the first day of the new school year. She said she is excited for the school year and plans to work as much as she can for as long as her health allows her to.

Nyberg said that, overall, she is feeling good, treatments are going well, and her doctors have a pretty good outlook for her. She added that she goes down to Great Falls to receive her treatments and she has been receiving assistance from the local Breast Cancer Foundation, Havre's annual Golfing for a Cure tournament and the Men Who Cook for Women Who Wine through Northern Montana Health Care Foundation, which helps pay for her travel expenses.

She said the fundraiser this week will help with the costs of traveling to Great Falls and was organized by two of her friends, Tiffany Carson and Lisa Kudrna.

Thursday, whenever someone buying food from Pizza Hut says they are donating to her, the restaurant will donate 20 percent of the purchase price to the Angie Nyberg Medical Fund. Nyberg said she appreciates the community for their support during this time.

"Everyone has been very awesome, reaching out to me, putting me in their thoughts and prayers," Nyberg said. "In general, Havre is a great community and I love to live here."
