Havre City Fire Department flies Old Glory

Havre Fire Department flew its new national flag high above Fifth Avenue Thursday.

International Association of Fire Fighters Local 601 President and Havre Fire Department Engineer Chance Ophus said the union local just purchased the flag and received it Thursday morning.

After talking to the fire chief, he said, they decided to send it on its "maiden voyage," hanging it off of the department's Rosenbauer ladder truck.

The truck has a 55-foot ladder, which stood above the fire department and Fifth Avenue with Old Glory waving in the air.

Ophus said the department was doing it to be patriotic, reminding people where they live.

He added that the community will see the flag again during special events such as the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day and other holidays.

The flag is 10 feet by 15 feet.
