KALISPELL — The Montana Chamber Foundation announced on Thursday the creation of a fund to enhance Montana’s future women leaders — the Judy Martz “Women in Leadership” grant. The first award will be presented at the 2019 Governors’ Cup Golf Tournament.
The grant of up to $5,000 will be awarded annually thereafter to a woman to enhance her educational, professional or leadership skills. It can be utilized in a variety of ways, including college tuition, a stipend for businesses assistance or training.
“Judy Martz was a model and advocate for women leaders,” said Webb Brown, executive director of the Montana Chamber Foundation. “Judy was a trailblazer when she became Montana’s 22nd governor. We couldn’t think of a better way to recognize her. While Judy is missed deeply by many, we hope this is one way we can continue her legacy.”
Martz was Montana’s first and only female lieutenant governor and governor. She was a business owner and also a member of the Board of Directors of the Montana Chamber of Commerce. As a lieutenant governor, governor and former governor, Martz was a strong supporter of the Montana Chamber Foundation’s Governors’ Cup Golf Tournament. Martz passed away in October 2017.
