Havre Public Schools is inviting people to a day of learning about technology, robotics, how to create mobile applications, videos and online publications with an international team of technology professionals.
Student Technology Fun Day is being held Saturday, Aug. 11, by a team of technology professionals back in Havre working with faculty and staff of Havre Public Schools to conduct technology training and upgrading.
The events Saturday run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Havre High School auditorium and classrooms for students in grades one through 12 and their parents.
The international team presenting Student Technology Fun Day includes representatives from Palo Alto, California, Atlanta, Georgia, Bangalore, India, Singapore, Costa Rica, Sofia, Bulgaria, Berlin and Rome.
The day falls in the middle of a week of training and upgrades being done in followup to a data-gathering and assessment visit last May.
Representatives of Team4Tech, Consortium for School Networking, two nonprofits that work in the field of education technology, and employees of international computer software company VMware performed the assessment.
The VMware Foundation decided last year to find another school district to work withafter a successful project in Utah the year before. They selected the Havre district as one on the “cusp of technology” that would greatly benefit from technology training and upgrades.
The team scheduled a visit from next Wednesday through Aug. 17 to work with faculty and staff and work on technology upgrades.
The schedule for the Aug. 11 Fun Day starts with a welcome and introduction from 9 to 9:30 a.m., then people choose one of four sessions that run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The sessions available are:
• Robots: Learn how to create and program a Lego robot with Lego WeDo 2.0.
• Electric Circuits: Turn everyday objects into computer programs with a Makey Makey.
• Straw Robots: Learn how to create and program a robot made out of straws with Strawbees.
• Microprocessors: Be creative with a micro-processor and basic block programming with a Micro:bit.
Lunch is provided from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., then participants can select from another one of the sessions, which will run again from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
2:30 to 3 p.m. will see a session with gifs, prizes and a show-case of what has been created.
People can call 395-8550 to sign up.
