Local youth baseball teams had a fun summer on the diamond

While the Havre Northstars American Legion Baseball team is hoping to keep its season alive this weekend at the Northern A District Tournament, the other baseball teams in Havre have concluded their seasons, including the Havre Comets and the Havre Jr. Comets.

Both the Comets and the Jr. Comets took part in the inaugural season of the Montana Baseball League and back in June, the Jr. Comets took home the 14U state title in the Montana Baseball League, knocking off the Montana Legends in the championship game at Legion Field.

The Jr. Comets wrapped up their season with games taking place July 13-15. They lost to Belgrade, Bozeman and Kalispell twice. That gave the Jr. Comets an overall record of 10-17. The team featured a roster of Brenden Fetter, Kale Reno, Wyatt Judd, Javish McLean, Adam Habeger, Caden Jenkins, Sosaia Raass, Juliun Benson, Lane Kinsella, Drake Berreth, Kale VanCampen, Conner McKay, Logan Cloninger, Theron Peterson, Trigg Mapes, Carter Leeds, Trenton Maloughney, Brody Nanini and Caleb Spangler.

The Comets, who were brought back after playing in the Northern A District for years, played 19 games this season and posted a record of 6-13, following a loss back on July 8 to Lewistown by the score of 12-9. The Comets got a chance to play teams from Lewistown, Malta, Great Falls, Miles City and Medicine Hat. The Comets also battled team from Billings and Kalispell over the course of the season.

The Comets did manage a sweep of Lewistown back in June. They also swept Malta back on June 2 and also swept Malta on July 3, while also getting a win over the Great Falls Outlaws June 30. There were a few players, such as Bridger Staples, Tyrel Kjersem, Quinn Reno, Eli Cloninger, Caleb Allestad and Garrett Parsons, who saw time with both the Northstars and Comets. The rest of the roster included Caleb Chambliss, Carson Lunak, Casey Mariani, Clint Owens, Evan Davison, Jacob Miller and some others that also saw time for the Jr. Comets such as Kale Reno, Raas, McLean, Maloughney and Jenkins.

Jenkins had an impressive season for the Comets, batting .390, driving in 14 runs and scoring 16. Miller was close behind, hitting .383 for the season. He also notched 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Cloninger also hit .326 for the Comets, while the other Comet to have at least 30 at-bats and hit .300 was Lunak, who finished the season with a .303 batting average.

The Havre 12U All-Star team also just finished up its season last weekend and posted a 3-2 record in its final tournament of the year. The team was coached by Jake Eldridge and has a roster of Mapes, Terek Shipp, Bodhy Lassle, Nanini, Jevin Jenkins, Tanner Delarosa, Aden Habeger, Matt Huse, Brayden Kimberling, Chason Mader, Ezra Pyle and Colter Solomon.
