Three nights of rodeo, demo derby and Indian Relays all part of a big week of fair sports
For the first month of summer, Havre sports days and nights have been filled with a lot of baseball, softball, golf, and youth sports camps.
This week however, is going to be different.
Wednesday marks the start of the 2018 Great Northern Fair, and with it comes a whole slew of exciting fair sports, highlighted by a whole lot of rodeo action.
The Great Northern Arena will be busy all week long, including three straight nights of rodeo. Wednesday night, the annual Havre Junior Rodeo will kick things off. There will be a full field of junior rodeo events, including the ever-popular mutton busting and, as always, youths from the ages of 5-18 from all over the Hi-Line will be competing.
On Thursday night, the action will shift to the adults with the 2018 Great Northern RAM Rodeo. The rodeo is an open rodeo and will feature bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, steer wrestling, barrel racing and the roping events.
Friday night, the pros from the Bull Riders Canada Tour will be in the arena to partake in the second annual Cody Four Colors Memorial Bull Riding. The inaugural event in 2017 was a huge hit, not only with local fans, but also the BRC itself.
Following three straight nights of rodeo fun, the action will shift to the cars Saturday night. The annual Jaycees Demolition Derby returns to the Great Northern Arena, and as always, the event will be well-attended, and extremely entertaining, as drivers spend all year preparing their cars for this one special night in Havre.
The fair sports action will then close Sunday with Indian Relay Racing, but it all starts with Wednesday night's Havre Junior Rodeo, which gets underway at 5 p.m. The Great Northern Ram Open Rodeo will start at 7 p.m. Thursday night, as will the Cody Four Colors Memorial Bull Riding Friday night. The Jaycees Demolition Derby kicks off at 5 p.m. Saturday night.
