Local News - Havre Trails holding Wolf Creek hike July 29

Havre Trails is inviting people to a hike in the Wolf Creek area of Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation Sunday, July 29.

Registration not required but requested so Havre Trails can ensure enough trailhead parking.

It is a 4.6 mile — 2-3 hour — hike on moderate terrain, an old two-track road, with a fair amount of shade. The overall elevation gain is 850 ft.

The group will meet at 7 a.m. in Montana State University-Northern’s western parking lot below the football practice field and will caravan along U.S. Highway 87 and take Laredo Road out to the trailhead. The trip requires at least 1 hour of driving each way with limited service station availability. Rocky Boy-area residents can meet in Rocky Boy at the Old Stone Child College at 7:45 a.m.

People should bring snacks and lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen and sun protection. Light pants are recommended due to high vegetation. Dogs are allowed with leashes.

The hike leaders will be Sammie at 803-640-2607 and Chris at 406-390-1235

Should fire danger or weather conditions be too extreme to hike this trail, Havre Trails will let all registered participants know of cancellation through the email with which they registered.

The Chippewa Cree Tribal Council and Natural Resources Department have generously granted Havre Trails a group recreation permit that allows us to hike on the Reservation. Individuals can purchase a permit from the Tribal Natural Resources Department by calling Lucilla at 395-4207.
