When it comes to youth baseball, it's the time of summer that things start to get serious and that was certainly the case for the Havre 12U All-Star team, which hosted and competed in the Montana East 12U State Tournament this past weekend.
The three-day tournament was held at the Havre Softball Complex. It started Friday and concluded Sunday with a team from Bozeman winning the state championship. The Havre 12U team won three of the four games it played, but lost in the quarterfinals to Glendive in the single-elimination tournament.
On the opening day of the tournament, Havre opened with Glasgow and won the game 10-4 behind a solid pitching effort from Trigg Mapes and Terek Shipp, who held Glasgow to just four runs. Shipp also helped out at the plate for Havre, getting two hits. Mapes also helped his own cause with two RBIs. Mapes also struck out three while Shipp got one batter out on strikes.
In the second game of group play, Havre took on Belgrade and cruised to another easy win, this time scoring a 13-6 victory. Bodhy Lassle pitched two solid innings for Havre and Mapes added two more strikeouts in the win. Brody Nanini, Shipp and Jevin Jenkins all had two hits. Nanini and Mapes also contributed with three RBIs in the win.
Following a 2-0 first day, Havre went into the single elimination tournament as one of the top seeds. Yet, Havre ultimately fell to Glendive and was knocked out of the bracket. Havre did get to play Glasgow in a consolation game Saturday night, but it was mostly just an extra game. Havre won that game easily.
The rest of the roster included: Tanner Delarosa, Aden Habeger, Matt Huse, Brayden Kimberling, Chason Mader, Ezra Pyle and Colter Solomon. The 12U will be back in action next weekend at the Choteau 12U All-Star Classic.
