Annual fair brings fun to Blaine County

Saturday morning the Blaine County Fair brought sunshine, food, rides and animals to the Hi-Line.

The Blaine County Fair, which started Wednesday and finished Sunday, included a carnival, food vendors,

fireworks, 4-H events, the Kids' Rodeo, Double D Pig Wrestling, Bear Paw Roundup PRCA Rodeo, the youth livestock sale and the demolition derby.

Though most of the events were held at night, the food vendors, carnival workers and 4-H members were up at the Blaine County Fairgrounds bright and early preparing for the day ahead.

The various 4-H barns included the Poultry Barn, Sheep Barn, Pig Barn, Horse Barn, Beef Breeding Barn and Market Beef Barn.

4-H member Grace Buck, 11, said she was competing with her heifer, pig and rabbit.

The judging is based a lot on how an animal is shown; how a student's showmanship is, Buck said, adding that this is her fourth time showing her animals, and she really enjoys the event.

Another 4-H member, Owen Davies, was at the fairgrounds showing his animals, one of which was a 15-year-old horse named Steel which had just won Grand Champion in Horseback and Level 2 Horsemanship.

His family bought Steel in 2016, Davies added.

On the midway, down from the hustle and bustle of livestock showing, food stall and carnival workers took the morning to prepare for all the people who would be coming to the fair in the afternoon and evening.

One food stall that was up and running early for the 4-H youth and families and visitors who were at the fairgrounds in the morning, Funshine Preschool booth, has been selling scones and sconitos - deep-fried frybread with chili inside - at the fair for about 20 years, teacher Theresa Danley said.

Funshine Preschool is a parent co-op and nonprofit, so they get a lot of their funding from their booth at the fair, she said.

The Chinook Youth Baseball also helps with the booth, so they also get some of they money earned, Danley added.
