Susan Annette Kaercher of Salt Lake City, Utah, 66, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away on May 15, 2018.
Her life was cut short following a brief but intense struggle with cancer. Her warmth, generosity, energy, and her unconditional love and acceptance will be deeply missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know her.
Susan was born in Havre on October 18, 1951, to Lloyd and Audrey Kaercher. She grew up on a farm 10 miles west of Havre, where her brother Les still resides and farms today. A proud graduate of Havre High School, she attended The University of Montana in Missoula, and graduated from Montana State University, Bozeman in 1976. Following graduation, she moved to Salt Lake City to complete her training as a registered dietitian.
Susan married Dennis Peterson in 1979, and they raised two children, Luke Peterson (b1980) and Wes Peterson (b1983). After she and Dennis divorced, Susan met and eventually married Larry Pike in 1998.
Susan worked as a legal librarian for the firm of Van Cott et al and the State of Utah.
Susan retired in 2012, and embraced her passions for travel and family. During her life, she explored many places, finding adventure in Norway, Mexico, India, Japan and elsewhere. Susan delighted in becoming a grandmother and loved to spend time with her young grandson Matthew.
Susan was preceded in death by her sister Joyce Slothower and her parents, Lloyd and
Audrey Kaercher.
Her surviving family include: husband, Larry Pike; children, Luke Peterson (wife Akimi) and Wes Peterson; siblings Diane Kaercher, Les Kaercher (wife Terri and children Kyra and Jamaica), Joan Hendricks (husband Eric and children Logan and Trevor), Doug Kaercher (wife Darla and children Kate, Mary and Anna), and her brother-in-law Bear Slothower and nephews Dan and David. She is also survived by her stepchildren and their families, Chris Pike (wife Atim and child Okema); and Anthony Pike (partner Sharon and child Matthew).
A remembrance service is scheduled n July 6 at 5:30 p.m., at at the Havre Boys & Girls Club. Please join us in sharing our fond memories of Susan.
