Havre Kmart closing

Closing date expected to be Sept. 30

The Havre Kmart store is closing.

Melissa Pomerantz, director of corporate communications at Sears Holding Corp., the parent company of Kmart and Sears, said the employees of the store were notified today that the store would be closed "as part of our ongoing efforts to streamline the company's operations and focus on our best stores."

Pomerantz said in her emailed reply to Havre Daily News inquiries that the store would be closing in late September with liquidation sales beginning as early as July 12.

Pomerantz said eligible employees impacted by the store closure will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.

The number of associates is not available, she said

A representative of Eldon S. Gottschalk and Associates confirmed that the company has been hired to handle the advertising campaign for the closure of the store at 3810 U.S. Highway 2 West.

A liquidation manager will be at the store by July 10, the representative said.

The campaign is set to begin July 12 and expected to end Sept. 30, 11 weeks later.

No employees will be fired during the closure sales, and, the ad company rep said, Kmart is hiring seasonal employees who can apply online or in the store to help with the closure process.
