Bobby Small tournament fundraiser set Thursday at Pizza Hut

A group holding a second annual basketball tournament during the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation annual powwow is holding a fundraiser Thursday at Pizza Hut.

Mike Sangrey said the money raised will go toward the $1,000 prize and tournament jackets for the winners of the Bobby Small Memorial Basketball Tournament.

Sangrey said last year’s tournament saw 11 teams participate, including players from North Dakota and Wyoming.

Team Fort Peck was the winner.

“My team came in second,” Sangrey added.

He said he hopes for an even bigger turnout this year, and a team from Arizona is signed up to play and a couple from Washington state are talking about it.

The organizers hope to hit 12 teams, as they hoped for last year, Sangrey said, and if more sign up, they will take them.

“The more the better,” he said.

This year’s tournament is scheduled to be played Aug. 3-5 in the Rocky Boy High School gymnasium.

“If we get more teams we might get another gym, but right now it is all in the high school,” Sangrey said.

Thursday, whenever someone mentions the tournament while buying food at Havre’s Pizza Hut, the restaurant will donate 20 percent of the purchase price to the Bobby Small Memorial Tournament.
