Hill County jail inmate charged with attempted escape

An inmate in the Hill County Detention Center was arrested on charges of attempted escape as well as criminal mischief, both felonies, after a discovery of vandalism led to finding what appeared to be an attempt to dig through a wall.

Marvin Cure was arrested on the charges and the investigation continues, The Hill County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release this monring

The release said detention center officers noticed Friday that a metal bar was pried loose from the stairway of the inmate housing unit at the jail.

Detention center officers searched the facility and interviewed several inmates, the release said.

The metal bar was found in Cure’s cell and deputies discovered he was attempting to escape the jail by digging through the cement and cinder-block wall in his cell using the bar, the release said. He had removed some of the grout around a cinder block in the exterior wall, it said.
