Sam Thornhill of Evergreen Skateparks paints a rim Tuesday on a part of the soon-to-be-finished Rocky Boy Skatepark. The park, which was funded by Pearl Jam bass player Jeff Ament, has been in construction since May and is set to be finished this Friday, according to Richie Conklin, who is overseeing the operation. The Rocky Boy Skatepark will be around 6,000 square feet and have many different features to keep skaters busy. One thing that was unique to this skatepark compared to others that Evergreen has done is that, when the team was digging, a tribal member from Rocky Boy was on site to make sure that if any Native American artifacts were dug up they were not damaged. The crew says that the only thing found were some buffalo skulls. Ament has funded skateparks in many Montana communities including his hometown, Big Sandy, as well as in Hays, and funded improvements to the skatepark in Havre.
