Northstars fight the rain, tough teams in Williston

The Havre Northstars American Legion Baseball team made the trip to Williston, North Dakota, with the hopes of getting at least four games in over four days at the annual tournament. However, due to rain Friday and Saturday, the Northstars got just two games in and wound up losing both.

The Northstars opened the tournament Thursday against Wahpeton, North Dakota, and dropped the game 6-2. Then after other contests were rained out Friday and Saturday, Havre took on the Saskatoon Giants, who knocked off Havre 7-0.

On Thursday, the Northstars sent Brenden Danielson out on the mound and he tossed a complete-game in the loss, allowing seven runs on 13 hits. Most of the damage was done in the top of the fifth and the top of the seventh. Wahpeton scored three runs in both innings and that was all it needed to win the game 6-2. Four errors also helped doom the Northstars, who finished the game with six hits. Tony Antley and Trey Murphy each had two hits, while Ethan Roberts, Jake Sedahl, Austin Delarosa and Gavin Mosbrucker all finished with one. Antley and Murphy each had an RBI.

In the second game of the tournament against the Giants, the Northstars were blanked, scoring zero runs on two hits. Delarosa and Murphy both managed base knocks. Danielson and Sedahl, who each drew a walk, were among the only other baserunners for Havre, which failed to take advantage of three Giants errors. On the other hand, the Giants scored two runs each in the first, third and fourth innings. They tacked on another in the seventh to give them seven runs on 10 hits.

Brendan Garden started the game for the Northstars and got the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in three innings. Gavin Mosbrucker, Roberts and Delarosa also pitched, with Mosbrucker allowed two runs and Roberts one.

The Northstars will be back in action this Friday against Medicine Hat, on the road, for a Northern A district doubleheader.
