Havre High senior Trey Murphy had a very exciting finish to a standout three-sport career - winning a Class A state championship in tennis last month.
But, as graduation approached Murphy was also honored to be the recipient of a scholarship from the Montana Coaches Association. Murphy was the Class A recipient of the MCA Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, which is given to one student-athlete in each of Montana's four classifications.
Murphy played three sports for four years at HHS, including two seasons as the Blue Ponies' starting quarterback in football. He was also a three-year varsity player in basketball, and a four-year varsity doubles player in tennis, all while maintaining a National Honor Society grade point average in the classroom. In total, Murphy plays a full four sports per year as well, as he is also a member of the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball team.
In receiving the scholarship, Murphy, who plans to attend the University of Montana in the fall, joins Caden Harkenson of Glacier High (AA), Logan Taylor of Bigfork (B) and Jae Kolker of Fairview (C) in receiving the $750 honor.
Another Class of 18 standout athlete with local ties also received the Frontier Conference/MCA Scholarship, which is given to just two Montana seniors each year. T.J. Reynolds, who is signed to play basketball at MSU-Northern, and is the son of former Havre High great Tommy Reynolds, received that scholarship as well.
