Schizoid Johnny to hold free concert in Zortman

Hays-Lodge Pole High School band director John Steinhardt will be giving a free performance as his alter ego Schizoid Johnny in Zortman Saturday.

The concert will be held at Zortman Amphitheater at 7 p.m and the fire department will be giving away ice cream, sundaes and root beer floats, Steinhardt said.

He said the performance is “just for the heck of it,” adding that he usually does some free concerts in the summer.

The concert is open to everyone and is for all-ages, Steinhardt said.

Steinhardt, a Zortman resident, received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin and has been working at Hays-Lodge Pole High School since 2017.

As Schizoid Johnny, he is a one-man band who plays all his own instruments including five guitars, keyboard, full-drum set and percussion.

He was well-known as a performer on the Hi-Line before leaving the area, returning to take over as the first Hays-Lodge Pole band instructor in some time.
