Hi-Line United heads to Montana Gold Cup

While most spring sports have concluded along the Hi-Line, there is one local sport that will finish up its state tournament this weekend and that's the Hi-Line United soccer team.

The United, a U17 soccer club, will take part in the annual Montana Cup this weekend and in its bracket, Havre will compete with both Livingston and Whitehall for the U17 title in its division. The United will open its Montana Cup Saturday morning against Livingston at 8. They will then take on Whitehall Saturday at 1:15 p.m.

Because there are only three teams in the U17 division for the United, if Havre is able to win both of its matches Saturday, it will clinch a spot in the championship game Sunday. However, if the United drop a match Saturday, it will need to win a play-in game Sunday morning at 11:30 to reach the final.

The United, who are led again by head coach Jayson Burrington, put together a record of 3-6-1 this season and they will head to the Montana Cup will a roster that features Sean Borrero, August Eacker, Saranina Flors, Cole Hanson, Nolan Lotton, Abby Niedert, Max Olson, Rhoda Peterson, Heather Rolf, Justin Rolf, Kimberly Shanks, Noah Teasley, Benjamin Vanwagner, Jacob Vanwagner and Natalie Verploegen.

The Hi-Line United will open the Montana Cup with two matches Saturday and regardless of the outcome, they will have at least one match Sunday. If the United advance to the Montana Cup final, it is scheduled to begin Sunday at 3 p.m.
