Beating a team twice is always difficult, but when you have to beat the same team, twice in one day, it's even harder to do.
That's something that was discovered in the championship series of the Havre Youth Baseball Association Majors city tournament that took place this past weekend at Lions Field. The tournament concluded Sunday morning with Bear Paw Precast winning the title. Yet, it wasn't easy, not by a long shot.
Bear Paw Precast, which is coached by Paul Lemer and Ted Reiter, got to the championship game undefeated, but lost the opening game to Pasco Ready Mix, which is coached by Britnee Delarosa, Oscar Delarosa and Ben Mader.
Needing to win to force a second game, winner-take-all game for the championship, Pasco Ready Mix rallied to win the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Tanner Delarosa scored to notch the 7-6 win. In the second game, Bear Paw Precast built another lead and actually led 8-4 going into the fourth and final inning (due to time limit). However, Pasco Ready Mix again put itself in position for an improbable rally, scoring three runs to trim the deficit to one run. But with the tying run on third and the winning run on second, Bear Paw Precast got the final out of the game and held on for the 8-7 win.
In addition to the coaches, Bear Paw Precast also had a roster that featured Levi Benjamin, David Dennis, Aden Habeger, Matthew Lemer, Trigg Mapes, Ricky Moore, Brisbin Reiter, Antone Rider, Koolen Schmidt, Asher Springer, Mason Standing Rock and Ethan Stortz.
The second-place team in the city majors tournament consisted of Gage Chapman, Samuel Christensen, Tanner Delarosa, Antreuian Gary, Chason Mader, Danny McKenzie, Colter Sands, Terek Shipp, Colter Solomon, Tristan Stygles, Darrell Sunchild III and Caleb Tomac.
HYBA city tournaments continue with the Minors June 11-14 and the Babe Ruth tournament June 12-15.
